VISHNIVE

MEMORIAL PRAYER FOR THE JEWISH COMMUNITY

VALLEY OF DEATH

In May 1996 I was in Vishnive with my parents. The pictures on this page were taken during the visit.

The Jewish cemetary suffered from criminal neglect because there is no one who treats it -- since there are no Jews left in Vishnive. The Communist Authority gave half of the cemetary to the Kolhoz (the tilled area with the parked car in the picture below). Another part was located in wild vegetation.

We went into the wild area to try to recognize the gravestones of people who died before World War II.

I took a picture also of the German bunker on the hill next to the Jewish cemetary. According to the gentile people we met, it was built during the First World War, and had been used in the Second as a position for the sniper who shot people.
